How it works

Color by number, pixel by pixel

A paint by number pixel art game that respects your time and your eyes.

1 · Pick a color, paint the numbers

Tap a numbered swatch, then tap or drag across every cell with that number. Pinch to zoom, a magnifier follows your finger, and the palette jumps to the next color when one runs out.

2 · Every color has a name, and a voice

"Dark red", "Sky blue", "Mustard": the name is written on every swatch and spoken when you tap it. Never while you paint, and it lowers your music instead of stopping it.

3 · Finish it, watch it come alive

Every single sprite has a second frame. Fill the last cell and the cat blinks, the rocket lifts off, the campfire crackles. Export the loop as a GIF and send it anywhere.

Your pace, your rules

No lives, no energy, no timer, and never a full-screen ad when you open a sprite. Grids from a gentle 12×12 to huge, detailed canvases, a sprite of the day, streaks, achievements and your own gallery. All offline.

Accessibility, not an add-on

A coloring game colorblind players can actually play

Pixel art lives on shading ramps: three or four near-identical tones of the same hue. That is the worst case for color vision deficiency, so every color here carries four ways to tell it apart.

Deuteranopia · protanopia · tritanopia · low vision

Written names

Every swatch says what it is: "Gold", "Mustard", "Dark green". Forty named colors, and the name never leaves the screen.

Spoken names

Tap a color and hear it, in English, Portuguese or Spanish. On by default, asked once, and silent while you paint.

Colorblind names

Look-alike shades get plainer names: coral becomes "Orange-red", teal becomes "Blue-green". The palette is checked for confusable pairs before a sprite ships.

ColorADD® symbols

The universal color code for the colorblind, on every swatch and inside every zoomed cell. Plus an optional dark canvas for painting at night.

Why it exists

Made for my son, again

Color Flags started because my son is colorblind and no flag game let him pick the right color without guessing. Once it worked for him, the next question was obvious: why stop at flags? Coloring by number is one of the most popular games there is, and almost every one of them asks you to tell twelve shades of blue apart by eye. So I built Color Pixels on the same idea: every color with its name written on the swatch and spoken out loud, plainer names for the shades that look alike, and no timer rushing anyone. Now he paints pixel art like everyone else, and so can anyone who sees color differently.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Quick answers, with a guide to dive deeper into each one.

What is the best pixel art color by number app?

Look for three things: a grid you can zoom and drag-paint, a palette that tells you what each color is, and a fair model with no lives or timers. Color Pixels does all three, adds an animation when you finish, works offline and is free on iPhone and Android. Learn more →

Is there a color by number app made for adults?

Yes. Adults want bigger canvases, a dark background for night painting and no childish pressure mechanics. Color Pixels goes from 12×12 up to huge canvases with up to 20 colors, has an optional dark canvas, and never uses lives, energy or timers. Learn more →

Are there coloring games for colorblind people?

Very few, because most rely on telling shades apart by eye. Color Pixels writes every color's name on the swatch, speaks it when you tap, uses colorblind names for look-alike shades and shows ColorADD symbols. Its palette is checked for deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia before any sprite ships. Learn more →

Do coloring games actually help with anxiety and stress?

Structured, repetitive, low-stakes tasks like color by number reliably lower self-reported anxiety in studies on coloring. What breaks the effect is pressure: timers, lives, ads mid-picture. Color Pixels has none of those, and a 16×16 sprite finishes in about three minutes. Learn more →

Which color by number games work offline, without wifi?

Color Pixels ships every sprite inside the app, so painting, progress, animations and your gallery all work with no connection at all. The whole catalog is about 1 MB, so the app stays small on your phone. Learn more →

Is there a color by number game without ads, lives or energy?

Color Pixels has no lives, no energy and no timer, and never shows a full-screen ad when you open a sprite. Ads appear only between pictures, capped, and a single one-time purchase removes them forever. There is no subscription. Learn more →

How do I make animated pixel art or a pixel art GIF?

Every sprite in Color Pixels has a second frame. Fill the last cell and it animates on the spot, free for everyone. Export GIF saves the loop as a small animated GIF you can send on WhatsApp or post to Reels and TikTok. Learn more →

Pixel art coloring pages or a coloring app, which is better?

Printables are great for screen-free time and pencil control. An app zooms, never runs out of a color, checks mistakes, saves progress, reads the color names aloud and animates the result. Many people print for the table and use Color Pixels on the go. Learn more →

Is Color Pixels free? Does it have ads or a subscription?

Color Pixels is free, and most of its packs are free too. It shows ads between sprites, never on opening one, and a one-time purchase removes them. Premium packs are bought once and kept forever. There is no subscription.

What languages and devices does Color Pixels support?

Color Pixels runs on Android 8 and newer and on iPhone and iPad. The interface and the spoken color names are available in English, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish.
